2026 Summer Meet Special Events Timeline

July Track Events

  • July 3–5: Opening Weekend & July 4th Racing Festival – Featuring historical reenactors, Uncle Sam appearances, $1 Carnegie Deli hot dogs (July 4), and complimentary pony rides and a petting zoo from Adirondack Dreamcatcher Farm (July 4–5).
  • July 3–5& July 9–11: FIFA World Cup 26 Viewing Parties in the Backyard Festival Tent hosted by Michelob Ultra and Saratoga Eagle.
  • July 18–19: FIFA World Cup 26 Viewing Parties return to the Backyard Festival Tent.
  • July 23: First Responders Day – Free admission for first responders with proper ID, plus ceremonial events featuring the New York State Troopers Pipes and Drums and the City of Albany Pipe Band.
  • July 24: New York Thoroughbred Aftercare Day – Highlighting the racing industry's commitment to equine aftercare in conjunction with the Rick Violette Stakes.
  • July 25: Permanently Disabled Jockeys' Fund Awareness Day – Autograph signings and photo opportunities with jockeys at the Jockey Silks Porch to benefit the PDJF.
  • July 26: Kids Day – Headlining the family zone with the second annual track mascot race. Plus, a horse plushie giveaway for kids!
  • July 29: Resumption of 5-Day Racing Weeks – Live racing officially expands to its traditional Wednesday through Sunday schedule.

Season-Long Daily Traditions

No matter which week of the summer meet you visit Saratoga Race Course, you can take advantage of these recurring track experiences:

  • Breakfast at Saratoga: Enjoy a trackside buffet breakfast while watching morning workouts daily from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. running from Opening Day (July 3) through closing week (excludes Travers Day and Labor Day). No reservations required.
  • Free Backstretch Tram Tours: Free 45-minute guided behind-the-scenes tours departing every 30 minutes from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.. Available every live racing day (except Travers Day and Labor Day) on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Taste NY Pavilion: Sample and purchase food and craft beverages produced exclusively in the Empire State inside Gate A at the Top of the Stretch. Open every Thursday through Sunday beginning Friday, July 3, through September 6.
  • Saratoga Low Roller Contest: On-track live money handicapping tournament with registration outside the Miller Time Fourstardave Sports Bar ($40 buy-in). Held every Thursday and Sunday beginning July 9 through September 6.
  • NYRA STAR Kids Club: Free youth program for kids 12 and under offering insider track experiences. Runs every Thursday through Sunday beginning July 9 through September 6. Register at the Family Zone booth near Gate A.
  • Horse Sense: An educational equine exhibit located inside Gate A from noon to 2 p.m. where fans can pet a friendly retired thoroughbred. Open every Saturday and Sunday beginning July 11 through September 6.
  • Family Sundays: Free family-friendly games, children's entertainment, and activities inside the main playground area near Gate A. Held every Sunday beginning July 12 through September 6.
  • Introduction to Handicapping: Weekly betting seminar with an expert handicapper in the shared Paddock Suite. Held every Sunday beginning July 12 through September 6 (Tickets start at $95; excludes Aug 2).
  • Purdy's Music Summer Stage: Live afternoon musical performances by popular local and regional bands featured each afternoon of the entire summer season (July 3 through September 7).

FAQs About Special Events at Saratoga Race Course

No, reservations are not required for the daily morning buffet. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. against the backdrop of morning workouts (note that breakfast is not held on Travers Day or Labor Day).  

Yes, the 45-minute guided tram tours are 100% free and depart every 30 minutes between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on live racing days (except Travers Day and Labor Day). They are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so line up early at the clubhouse entrance.  

Yes, but you must follow the ice policy. Fans bringing standard-sized coolers are required to ensure all ice is contained inside sealed bags upon arrival. You must also enter through the designated inspection lanes located at either Gate B or Gate C.

Saratoga Race Course is a card-friendly venue, meaning credit and debit cards are welcome at all on-track locations. However, if you prefer to use cash for food, beverages, programs, or admission, the track provides convenient reverse ATMs on-site to convert your cash.
