First contested in 1928, the Whitney Stakes is named in honor of the Whitney family, who played a pivotal role in shaping American thoroughbred racing—and especially racing in Saratoga Springs.

The Whitneys' racing roots date back to William Collins Whitney, a co-founder of The Jockey Club, who began campaigning horses in the late 19th century. His son, Harry Payne Whitney, and grandson, Sonny Whitney, carried on the family’s legendary silks in some of the sport’s most iconic races.

U.S. Women's Hockey Olympic Gold Medalists

Saratoga Race Course will welcome 2026 U.S. Women's Hockey Olympic gold medalists Haley Winn and Hayley Scamurra, joined by USA Hockey Women's National Team General Manager Katie Million, for a fan meet-and-greet from approximately 3PM-4PM. All three are New York natives, and their achievement will be further honored with a race named in tribute to the 2026 U.S. Women's Hockey Olympic team's gold medal win at this year's Winter Olympics.

Best in Pink Fashion Photo Contest

Saratoga's longstanding pink tradition returns with the Best in Pink Photo Contest, running from 12:30PM-2:30PM at the Jockey Silks Porch. Fans are invited to dress in their best pink attire for a chance to win prizes, and every participant will walk away with a complimentary photo magnet courtesy of On The Spot Photos.

Horse Sense

Racegoers can meet a retired thoroughbred up close at Horse Sense, located inside Gate A, on both Saturday and Sunday from 12PM-2PM. The experience offers fans a firsthand look at life after racing.

Subourbon Life and Saratoga Sunrise

Fans 21 and older can toast Whitney Day with complimentary samples of Subourbon Life bourbon-based ready-to-drink cocktails outside the Subourbon Beverage Express. The Saratoga Sunrise, the track's official cocktail featuring Chopin Vodka, will also be sampled at the Chopin Clubhouse Bar on the second level. The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance will be on-site to share information about its mission of accrediting, inspecting, and awarding grants to approved aftercare organizations that retrain, rehire, and rehome thoroughbreds.
