The Chandler Travis Philharmonic is a 9-piece ensemble from Boston that includes a horn section, string bass, keyboard, mandocello, guitar, drums, accordion, and singing valet.
It's possible they might be the missing link between the Kinks and Sun Ra?
The Philharmonic was born in the fall of 1996 at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, on the occasion of Chandler doing a guest shot there with a house band led by multi-instrumentalist/singer Dinty Child. When asked if he would like to add any additional instrumentation, Chandler, having always hated when elderly bands ruan out of ideas to this extent, facetiously suggested "oh yeah, let's get some horns and chick back-up singers." Strangely, Dinty complied with the horn part, booking (among others) genius trumpeter Keiichi Hashimoto, and the CTP was surprisingly hatched!
Later on,cross-dressing drummer Rikki Bates, a pal of Chandler's from the Incredible Casuals and one of the more amazing instrumentalists on the planet, and Keith Spring, (NRBQ, Martin Mull) helped complete the picture.
Since then, the band -all colorfully garbed 8 pieces of them - plus singing valet Fred Boak - have introduced the concept of alternative dixieland and omnipop to audiences all over Massachusetts and far beyond (San Francisco,Chicago, and especially New Orleans and New York City have proved particularly responsive -the Village Voice declared them "keenly entertaining", calling Chandler "a true New England eccentric and a master of daft power pop", and the band "a blend of Ringling Bros. and Ra" that "puts the harm back in Philharmonic", and the New Yorker has repeatedly concurred.)
The band released its debut album, "Let's Have a Pancake",along with 26 other website-only full-length CDs (the improbable and ground-breaking RadioBall series) in 2000 as a means of welcoming in the new century; four more "official" Philharmonic releases followed, all on the Sonic Trout label, the most recent being 2010?s "The Chandler Travis Philharmonic Blows!", which followed hard on the heels of Chandler's first solo release in a decade, 2009?s "After She Left".

In 2011, Jennifer Pharr Davis became the overall record holder on the Appalachian Trail. By hiking 2,181 miles in 46 days - an average of 47miles per day - she became the first female to ever set that mark. But this is not a book about records or numbers; this is a book about endurance and faith, and most of all love.
"Called Again" is Jennifer's story, in her own words, about how she started this journey with a love for hiking and more significantly a love for her husband Brew. Together, they were able to overcome rugged
mountains and raging rivers, sleet storms and 100 degree heat, shinsplints and illnesses. They made new friends and tested old friendships; they shared together laughter and tears - a lot of tears. But, through it all, they fell more in love with one another and with the wilderness.
Join Jennifer Pharr Davis as she shares her adventures on the trail. Copies of her book, "Called Again" will be available for purchase during this program. No registration required.

Session Americana is a Boston-based rock band in a tea cup, or possibly a folk band in a whiskey bottle. On stage is a collapsible bar table wired with microphones, a vintage suitcase recast as a kick drum, an old Estey field organ, a pre-war parlor guitar, a harmonica case fire damaged when Jack's bar went up in flames and graffitied by Depeche Mode roadies, and an assortment of other instruments that get passed around in this freewheeling modern hootenanny. The anything-could-happen feel of a Session show depends on craft that's not accidental or easily won; they bring a kind of ease and genuineness to timeless Americana music, sometimes presenting the latest batch of original songs, sometimes reaching back into depths of the American "song bag".

Welcome to La Marina, Manhattan?s original waterfront destination.
Dyckman Marina has been a vital part of upper Manhattan?s unique waterfront culture for more than two centuries. Where in former times, notable Manhattanites kept their summer estates and yachts, where seaplanes and ferries dotted the piers, nestled just below the Cloisters at the end of Dyckman Street along the Hudson River, sits the new La Marina, NOW OPEN.The newly rebuilt restaurant, bar, lounge and events space covers more than 75,000 square feet of Hudson River waterfront in Upper Manhattan. A short walk from the A-train, La Marina is the ideal spot in NYC to enjoy cocktails at sunset, to hop off your bike for a break, to host your event, or to enjoy a romantic, moonlit dinner for two.

Drawing on that influence and countless others, over the last ten years Assembly of Dust has crafted a unique sound that recalls the likes of The Band, Traffic and Neil Young.
They have taken that early 70?s Americana swagger, put their own funky spin on it, and earned comparisons to the next generation of Americana heroes including Ryan Adams, Mumford and Sons and Wilco.
Hooky melodies, poetic lyrics, and a profound depth of musicianship prompted USA Today to say Assembly of Dust has what it takes to "dazzle the Alt-Country universe."
The band was formed in 2002 by former Strangefolk front man Reid Genauer and has been embedded in the alt-country and jam band scenes ever since

Rhythm & blues, jazz-funk, nu-disco and reggae-fusion blended with rock & roll.
H PetsThe Heavy Pets are an American band that was deemed a "living, breathing force of nature" by Relix. The Pets are known for their soulful song-craft and powerhouse live performances of their infectious dance songs.
The group became an instant Sirius radio sensation with the release of their double-disc debut album, Whale (2007), driven by hit tracks "Operation of Flight" and "Sleep."
First embraced by the jam scene for their raw talent, the cross-over sound that is showcased on their self-titled album (2010), which was dubbed a "Top 10 Album of 2010" by The Huffington Post, propelled them into the periphery of mainstream music.
Returning to their acoustic roots for their third studio release, Swim Out Past the Sun (2011), THP's guitar duo set aside their electric axes for a more organic approach. Featuring a three song sit-in by longtime Jerry Garcia collaborator David Grisman, the album presents a fresh perspective from the ever-evolving quintet. THP and SOPTS were produced and recorded by multi-platinum, Grammy and Oscar Award-winner Scott Mathews and mastered by Grammy Award-winner Vlado Meller.
Following the intensive recording sessions of their previous two releases, the Pets were eager to produce a raw product more true to their notorious live sound while adapting to the current recorded music market. That desire is where the Everywhere Sessions was born. Everywhere Sessions: Volume 1 EP was recorded in the AURA Music Events Studio in two takes with zero overdubbing or editing and features three previously unreleased tracks from three different song-writers and three different eras. The new Everywhere Session release is available for FREE download

The Laffer Gallery will be holding an opening reception for their new exhibition featuring the Best-In-Show winner of The Laffer Gallery?s annual ?Upstate Artists? group show, Nick Patten on Friday, June 28th from 6pm until 9pm at 96 Broad Street in Schuylerville, N.Y.
Nick Patten is a native of Troy, New York and received a B.A. in Fine Arts at the College of Saint Rose. In addition to dozens of solo and group shows at a variety of venues nationwide, Patten?s work can be seen in many private and public collections throughout the world. Corporate and museum collections in which he can be seen include the New York Public Library, the Print Club of Albany Permanent Collection, the Boston Public Library and the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum of Rutgers University. Currently residing in Hudson in New York?s scenic Hudson Valley Region, Mr. Patten continues to paint and exhibit throughout the Northeast.
Patten?s realist paintings are about light and surface. The artist works from photographs to develop haunting compositions on interiors that include highly reflective surfaces and dramatic lighting situations. At the same time, these works include objects of a mundane nature, such as chairs, tables and doorways. Patten?s works are beautifully composed to draw you into quiet yet intimate scenes.

Tame Your Inner Critic
Finally learn to soften
the critical voices in your head.
Let's face it, you'll never be skinny enough, pretty enough, young enough, successful enough or 'well to do' enough for the itty bitty shitty committee that rules your thoughts on a daily basis.
You know that voice well. It's the one that constantly compares you to others and even in your moments of glory, it still finds a way to tear you down and tell you how much better you could be if only you were ... (fill in the blank).
Imagine if you could quiet that inner critic
and learn to transform it into your greatest ally?
In this half day playshop you will discover why those voices are there, what they need from you and how you can begin to change the way they negatively impact your life.
You will be guided to:
?Identify and name the most vocal voices in your head.
?Understand where they came from and what purpose they serve.
?Learn how you can use them to your advantage and create lasting change in your life.
Join us for this empowering event and learn to transform your negative self-talk forever!

One chilly evening, early in the fall of 2010, Adam Brockway, Dave Wright, Carl Anderson, Luke Anderson and Zack Infante gathered by a woodstove in a barn on the outskirts of Greenwich, NY. With a snare, a kick, and an old beat up high hat, Carl began teaching himself how to play the drums while Adam and Zack played along on guitars, Luke on banjo and Dave on bass. Vocal melodies and harmonies were flowing like the beer from their cans and within a few hours, the group had written 2 songs front to back and it was obvious, at least to the brand new quintet, that they had immediately put together a sound that was just as unique as it was traditional.

Margolin imagines an encounter between Bernie Madoff, the operator of the largest Ponzi scheme in history,a scheme which highly damaged if not destroyed many organizations and trusts and pensions, as well as the well planned good works of innumerable philanthropists; and Solomon Galkin, an 80 year-old holocaust survivor, a moral, decent man who is a synagogue trustee and treasurer.
The highly acclaimed 2010 one act play premiered at Stageworks Hudson and Theater J and has since been seen regionally in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, and Michigan.
The play will feature professional acting by Gary Maggio, a frequent performer in the region, in the role of Bernard Madoff; Alvin Goldman, of Temple Israel with background and skills to make the reading come alive, in the role of Solomon Galkin; and Beth Sabo Novik, of Temple Sinai and former student of theater, in the role of Madoff's Secretary. Devra Cohen-Tigor will be Assistant to the Director. Each production will include a discussion and dessert reception. The music of The Grateful Dead transcends time, age and space. Their high energy, soul touching jams and family like environment was a core part of the counter-culture experience. Over the past 14 years Dead Sessions has grown to become one of the favorite Grateful Dead experiences in the Northeast. Playing since 1998, the collective is known for their authentic but unique renditions of Grateful Dead classics, thick with heartfelt jams that make the most jaded Deadhead rejoice. Dead Sessions is composed of a rotating cast of musicians throughout the country, but the roots of origin are easily traced to the Green Mountain State. With an unmasked joy that pours off the stage and blurs any boundaries with their audience, the Sessions are beloved from both the casual fan to the dedicated Terrapin warrior. Dead Sessions have included members of Trey Anastasio Band, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Grippo Funk Band, Gordon Stone, Doug Perkins, Turkey Bouillon Mafia, Seth Yacovone Band, Liquid Dead and more. Special guests have ranged from your neighbor "down the farm" to Mike Gordon of Phish.
